The Relay through more then 100 cities, 30 countries and 5 continents is staged by CIPFG, the coalition of 350 organizations, lawyers, doctors, reporters, politicians, human rights activists and VIPs from the whole world.
Why? The International Olympic Committee awarded Beijing with the Olympics 2008 with expectation that the Chinese Communist party will address its appalling human rights record. Now less than one year remain until the beginning of the Games, but the situation only got worse.
Leading human rights organizations in the world document forced relocations and land seizures, arresting of journalists, internet users, and worshippers of any "unofficial" church, persecution, torture and forced organ harvesting from prisoners of conscience in China. The most endangered group is, according to UN special report, Falun Gong meditation practice, who constitute 66% of torture victims in China and according to "Bloody Harvest" report are the most frequent victims of forced organ harvesting for commercial transplants.
