Finland: Raising Awareness about Falun Gong in Helsinki

October 15th 2008 05:35
By a Finnish practitioner

On October 4th, Finnish Falun Gong practitioners held some activities in the centre of Helsinki to raise awareness about Falun Gong and to call on the people of Finland to reach out and help stop the persecution of Falun Gong by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Practitioners displayed information boards, demonstrated the Falun Gong exercises, and handed out flyers. They also collected signatures condemning the persecution.

Since 2000, Finnish Falun Gong practitioners have continuously raised awareness about Falun Gong to the Finnish people, so for people here, Falun Gong is already not something unfamiliar. The kind people of Finland are also using different means, to offer a helping hand to the Falun Gong practitioners.

After a retired elderly person got to know more of the true situation of the persecution from a practitioner called Anija, he requested for more materials, saying that his daughter is an editor for a newspaper office, and that he wanted to give his daughter these materials in the hope that she could help Falun Gong.

When a woman called Petra was signing her name against the persecution she told a practitioner that she knew Falun Gong practitioners were suffering the persecution, so she came to sign her name in support.

When a man was passing on his bicycle, he stopped and asked for materials. He said to practitioners that he knew about Falun Gong, and wanted to know more about Falun Gong. Practitioner Mrs. Jiang told him of how she herself had benefited in mind and body from starting to practice cultivation in Falun Gong in 1995, but in 1999 the CCP started to suppress these good people who believe in Truth Compassion Tolerance. She herself came to Finland in 2001 to see her daughter, and three months later when the time came to return to China, her friends and family in China however told her absolutely not to come back, the national police had gone to where she worked and to her home to investigate, and even threatened and inspected her more than 80 year old mother. As a result after her mother passed away last year, she herself had no means to go back to pay her last respects. Mrs. Jiang gave this young man direction to the Falun Gong web sites, telling him that he could read the Falun Gong books there and see related materials. He inquired about the practice sites in Helsinki and then said, “It looks like the CCP fears Falun Gong.”
